Dialogic Consideration - What are Stakeholder Dialogues? - 12th October '23

Who counts as a stakeholder, and what happens when you actually invite them into dialogue? This October 2023 session takes up the question of stakeholder dialogues within organisations and systems, examining how leadership and decision-making change when those affected by decisions are brought into genuine conversation.

Recorded in October 2023 as part of the Academy's Dialogic Consideration series, this session addresses a deceptively simple question: what are stakeholder dialogues, and how do they differ from consultation, negotiation, or managed communication? The session situates stakeholder dialogue within organisational and systems contexts, where decisions rarely affect only those who make them, and where the gap between formal authority and practical legitimacy can undermine even well-intentioned leadership. Participants are invited to consider what conditions allow stakeholder voices to be heard rather than merely registered, and what shifts in leadership behaviour that requires. The session connects to broader questions about how dialogue principles can be embedded in governance and decision-making structures, rather than added on as occasional events.
