Dialogic Consideration: The Dialogic Team as a Decision-Making Forum - 14th August 2024
What happens when a leadership team replaces its usual decision-making process with dialogue? This AofPD session examines the dialogic team as a forum for collective consideration, asking how the quality of team thinking changes when dialogue principles shape how decisions are reached.
Recorded on 14th August 2024, this session addresses a question that sits at the heart of organisational dialogue work: can a team learn to make decisions dialogically, and what does that actually require? The session explores the concept of 'dialogic consideration' as a distinct mode of collective reasoning, one in which teams suspend judgement, surface assumptions, and hold multiple perspectives before converging on a course of action. The focus is on the dialogic team as a structural form, examining what distinguishes it from a conventional leadership group and what conditions allow it to function as a genuine decision-making forum. The session is part of the Academy's ongoing inquiry into how dialogue principles move from practice into the architecture of organisational life.
