Autism Dialogue, February 28th 2019

AofPD

"I grew up calling others normals and dreading becoming one." Jonathan Drury facilitates ongoing Autism Dialogue sessions bringing autistic and non-autistic people together. This February 2019 recording captures one such gathering exploring neurodiversity through Bohmian principles.

Jonathan Drury's Autism Dialogue series creates space for autistic and non-autistic people to explore neurodiversity together using Bohmian dialogue principles. Drury, who writes openly about growing up autistic and viewing others as "normals," facilitates sessions where equal voice is given to all participants regardless of neurological style. This February 2019 recording captures one session in the ongoing series. Participants examine how traditional dialogue formats might need adaptation for different neurological experiences, what autistic perspectives reveal about communication and genuine listening, and how dialogue practice itself can become more inclusive. The sessions emerge from Drury's conviction that dialogue, with its emphasis on suspension of assumptions and deep listening, offers particular value for bridging neurological differences. His approach challenges participants to question what counts as "normal" communication while creating conditions where different ways of processing and relating can coexist productively.
