We will explore the impact of the current political landscape on U.S. colleges and universities. Larry Schooler, faculty, will share the impact of federal and state legislation on a state-funded university. Patty Hawk, faculty, will explore how the stress created by a barrage of federal edicts is manifesting among faculty on a small, private university campus that is working to nurture a dialogic culture. Ella Mahaffy, university student, will share how students are embracing and resisting dialogue as a response to an unpredictable social and political landscape.

Patty Hawk is a professor of Communication Studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Patty has been teaching dialogue and communication for 25 years. Her current research focuses on using dialogue to improve understanding across difference.

Larry Schooler is an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin teaching conflict resolution & facilitation. Dr. Schooler also works with governmental and non-profit agencies as a mediator, facilitator, & communications consultant.
