ADWOW Set 1 - Advocacy and Enquiry
AofPD
How do you hold a position without shutting down the conversation? The first set in the Academy's ADWOW programme introduces advocacy and enquiry as the foundational tension at the heart of dialogue practice.
Advocacy and enquiry sit at opposite poles of how people communicate: one asserts, the other invites. This opening module of the ADWOW programme helps participants recognise which mode they default to, how that default shapes the quality of exchange around them, and what it costs when the two fall out of balance. Participants encounter the difference between advocating with openness and advocating as a closed position, and between enquiry that genuinely seeks understanding and enquiry used as a rhetorical manoeuvre. The culminating challenge is learning to move fluidly between the two, a skill that underpins everything that follows in the ADWOW curriculum.
