About the event
The Dialogue at the Heart of the Academy:
We will meet at the same time on the first Wednesday of every month – do make a note in your calendar and join us!
Our intention is to deepen our community engagement, to learn together and experience together as colleagues, and to practice dialogue to improve our skills and competency.
The theme will be announced approximately two weeks before each monthly dialogue.
Session Reflections from August
On Wednesday, August 6th, we held our Members-Only Monthly Dialogue with the theme: What is the atmosphere in your world, and what might we do to impact it?
A robust dialogue ensued.
In true dialogic fashion, members authentically used the dialogic skills while initiating thoughts, supporting other's thoughts, putting out opposing thoughts, and making bystand comments. We started the dialogue discussing the weather as our physical atmosphere and our interpersonal and external interactions as the social atmosphere. We recognized globally there has been a shift in "the atmosphere". Emergent thoughts included (but were not limited to):
The atmosphere starts inside me (internal)
The extremification of the weather (physical atmosphere) reflects the extremes of the social atmosphere (external atmosphere)
The internal and external influence goes both ways
What are we trying to achieve in these atmospheres?
Be as aware as I can and act in the spaces I can
If I don't like the atmosphere, I can try to understand why people are making the decisions they're making
The prevailing sentiment was that the atmosphere matters. What do you think?
Even if you weren't able to join us, we hope you will reflect in your own way and join us as we build upon our dialogue with the theme: The atmosphere matters. But what does it mean when we say we're in dialogue?
We look forward to seeing you at our next Member's Dialogue on Wednesday, September 3rd.
